Thunderbird by default does not offer the same functionality found in Squirrelmail, nor has an extension been written to add this capability. Message highlighting ( overview) is a great feature of Squirrelmail that I sorely missed in Thunderbird. Please see this Thunderbird Help page if you need more information.
